My teaching philosophy within the D-Line/OLB can be broken down with a simple, and appropriate, acronym: EAT.
E – Eyes
– Everything starts and ends with good eye discipline.
– See a Little, See A Lot
o Tip of the shoulder pad will guide you
o Don’t over think it!
– Great players see then react, don’t wait for the action to come to you.
A – Alignment/Assignment
– Zero talent trait
o Anyone can be elite at these
– Base vs. Stunt vs. Blitz / Man vs. Zone
– Down & Distance
o Where are we & what are we likely to see
T – Tenacity
– How tough are we going to be as a group and as individuals?
– This includes everything post snap
o Strike, Shed, Pursuit & Tackle
– How bad do you want it?
Outside of the DL/OLB’s my general coaching principles are rooted in teaching the fundamentals & techniques needed to play exceptional & simple football, letting my athletes play fast and free. Coverage’s & checks are taught in a simple to understand and easy to digest way. Tackling is taught from the ground up yearly and revisited consistently throughout the season. Alignments & Assignments tend to stay within base rules and don’t change much week to, allowing athletes to know their roles and own them.
ONE PLAY AT A TIME
